Director of Pharmacy

The Director of Pharmacy directs and oversees all operations of the Pharmacy Department and ensures adherence to applicable State and Federal laws and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Chief Clinical Officer and the Executive Leadership Team forecasts, develops, and manages department specific requirements of pharmacy practice, including legal requirements.
  • Develops and maintains pharmacy policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Oversees daily pharmacy operations including prescription processing, dispensing, and refill management.
  • Manages pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and support personnel by delegating tasks, providing training, and evaluating performance.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information at all times and ensures that HIPAA procedures are followed and documented.
  • Serves as a voting member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee.

Financial Oversight and Compliance/Quality Assurance Duties

  • Develops and manages the pharmacy budget, including drug costs, staffing expenses, and equipment needs.
  • Optimizes utilization of the 340B drug pricing program to maximize cost savings for the FQHC.
  • Monitors pharmacy revenue and identifies opportunities for cost reduction strategies.
  • Ensures adherence to all pharmacy regulations, including DEA controlled substance management, medication error reporting, and patient privacy laws.
  • Implements quality assurance programs to monitor pharmacy practices and identifies areas for improvement.
  • Conducts regular audits and reviews to maintain compliance with pharmacy standards.
  • Has regular contact with professional representatives and other CHC Pharmacy Directors concerning drug purchases and cost savings.
  • Negotiates contracts and partnerships with vendors pertaining to medication and pharmacy specific supplies and equipment.

Pharmacy Informatics

  • Manages system by evaluating, overseeing and maintaining pharmacy software and computer systems, including order entry, dispensing, and telehealth.
  • Analyzes data by examining patient data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Communicates findings with healthcare teams to help improve patient care.
  • Develops new knowledge to improve outcomes.
  • Provides support to pharmacists, physicians, and nurses with requests for EMR and pharmacy system changes.
  • Provides training and education for staff on EMR and pharmacy systems.

Qualifications:

  • A Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree preferred.
  • Must currently possess a license to practice Pharmacy in the state of South Carolina and have at least five to ten years of leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Experience in community pharmacy practice, preferably within an FQHC setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of 340B program regulations and compliance.
  • Experience with software development, implementation, system analysis, and product architecture as well as data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of pharmacy practice standards and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with healthcare providers and patients.
  • Ability to manage multiple project and deadlines.
