Risk Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Risk Manager is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of the Tandem Health Risk Management Program, including but not limited to the following key responsibilities:

  • Proactively evaluates areas of organizational risk through internal assessments and external benchmarking; implements strategies and policies to promote patient safety, staff safety, and the overall safety of Tandem Health facilities.
  • Assists with promoting and managing the occurrence reporting process, including trending and analyzing results, identifying high-risk or problem-prone areas, and facilitating prevention initiatives.
  • Leads the investigation of all potentially compensable events (preventable adverse events), collaborating with leadership to resolve issues and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinates and leads root cause analyses (RCAs) and failure mode and effects analyses (FMEAs) for serious occurrences; ensures dissemination of lessons learned and implementation of process improvement plans.
  • Meets regularly with the Corporate Compliance Officer and the Director of Risk Management & Quality Assurance to present detailed reports on serious incidents, claims, and other risk-related issues.
  • Responds promptly and appropriately to serious incidents or complaints involving potential or actual harm to patients, visitors, or employees; oversees follow-up actions to ensure compliance, resolution, learning, and proper documentation.
  • Analyzes statistical reports, advisories, and other data sources to identify risk management and patient safety trends and patterns; provides meaningful insights to leadership.
  • Stays current with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and statutes relevant to risk management within clinical and operational areas of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
  • Reviews and evaluates existing risk management-related policies and procedures; recommends revisions and develops new policies as necessary for leadership approval.
  • Actively participates in designated committees, providing subject matter expertise in risk management and patient safety.
  • Conducts an annual evaluation of the Risk Management Program to identify and implement improvement opportunities.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required with master's preparation and risk management certification highly desirable. Clinical background desirable.
  • Proven management ability and experience including a thorough understanding of quality improvement (QI) processes, tools, and techniques; quality measurement and reporting; root cause analysis and preventive risk management strategies; accrediting bodies' standards; and state and federal regulations.
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office or related products required and experience in use of risk management tools is desired.
  • Knowledge of risk information management systems (RIMS).
